US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said that the framework for an agreement had already been prepared, but the final step required direct communication between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Trump. According to him, this outreach never happened, leading to the talks losing momentum. He added that both sides were extremely close to sealing the agreement, but India&rsquo;s position eventually weakened the chances of closure.

What had once been a saint centric space became an institution with economic value, social reach, and political relevance. It is here that caste entered the picture.

Recent tensions between Ahir and Koli communities around Bagdana are often framed as matters of hurt sentiment or historical entitlement. But history offers little support for such claims. What is unfolding today is not a theological disagreement. It is a struggle for control. Control over what Bagdana represents. Control over who speaks for Bapa. Control over crowds, symbolism, and influence.

In regions where religious institutions carry social capital, proximity to a saint&rsquo;s legacy often translates into legitimacy. Association becomes authority. Over time, bhakti risks turning into a badge rather than a belief.
What is being contested at Bagdana is not Bapa&rsquo;s teachings. It is the power that comes from invoking his name.

The irony is difficult to ignore. A saint who walked into Bagdana with nothing now stands at the centre of disputes over everything. A guru who rejected caste identity is posthumously claimed by caste narratives. A man who avoided hierarchy now lends his name to competing assertions of dominance.
This drift is not unique to Bagdana. Across India, saint led movements often fracture after the saint is gone. Charisma hardens into institution. Devotion becomes administration. Faith turns into negotiation.
Recognising this pattern, however, does not absolve responsibility. Especially not when the founder&rsquo;s ideals are so clearly at odds with present practice.

If Bajrangdas Bapa&rsquo;s life offers any lesson, it is this. Bhakti was never meant to be ownership. His silence on caste was not neutrality. It was rejection. His refusal to institutionalise power was not oversight. It was intention.
Bagdana today stands at a crossroads. It can either protect the sanctity of Bapa&rsquo;s ideals or continue to use his name to legitimise struggles he never stood for. Both paths cannot coexist.
The saint is no longer here to speak. But his life still does. The only question that remains is whether those claiming to follow him are willing to listen.

Venezuela sits atop the largest proven oil reserves in the world&mdash;around 17% of global supply. In the 1970s, it produced 3.5 million barrels per day, accounting for over 7% of global output. Gold reserves running into hundreds of metric tonnes, iron ore estimates in the billions, and strategic minerals essential for future industries place Venezuela squarely on the global resource chessboard. Sanctions did not merely freeze current revenue; they pre-empted future economic autonomy.

If sanctions, blockades and regime-change tactics are legitimate tools, what stops Russia from justifying further action in Eastern Europe, or China from claiming strategic necessity in Taiwan? When power replaces principle, international law becomes selective, and the strong define morality.
Washington may believe it is defending order, but it is normalising disorder.

Regime change failed. Maduro remains. Yet ordinary citizens paid the price.

Pakistani authorities have begun the process of deporting Sarabjeet Kaur, a woman from Punjab who went to Pakistan on a religious pilgrimage in November and did not return. She is expected to be handed over to Indian authorities at the Attari-Wagah border on Monday evening.
Sarabjeet had travelled to Pakistan as part of a Sikh jatha to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev at Nankana Sahib. During the visit, she separated from the group and later surfaced in Pakistan&rsquo;s Sheikhupura district, where she reportedly converted to Islam and married a local man, Nasir Hussain.
According to officials, a joint team of Pakistan&rsquo;s intelligence agencies and local police traced and detained both Sarabjeet and Nasir. Following this, the Pakistani government initiated formal deportation proceedings, as Sarabjeet is an Indian national.
Reports indicate that shortly after arriving in Pakistan on November 4, Sarabjeet married Nasir Hussain and formally adopted Islam. She later changed her name to Noor Hussain. The development came to light after the couple allegedly went into hiding, prompting a police search.
Subsequently, the couple approached the Lahore High Court, claiming harassment by local authorities. The court directed the police not to interfere in their personal lives. In her petition, Sarabjeet stated that she had married a Pakistani citizen and had contacted the Indian mission regarding her status.
A short video of their marriage ceremony later surfaced on social media, in which Sarabjeet is heard stating that she converted to Islam and married of her own free will. Despite these claims, Pakistani authorities have decided to deport her, as she does not hold Pakistani citizenship.
The case has drawn attention in both countries due to its religious, legal and cross-border implications.

Punjab Woman Sarabjeet Kaur to Be Deported

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to grant bail to student leaders Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam in the 2020 northeast Delhi riots case, citing the seriousness of allegations and holding that they stand on a &ldquo;qualitatively different footing&rdquo; from other accused.
Both Khalid and Imam have been in custody for several years and had approached the apex court challenging a Delhi High Court order that denied them bail under the stringent provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
While denying bail to the two student leaders, a bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and NV Anjaria allowed the release of five co-accused, Gulfisha Fatima, Meeran Haider, Shifa Ur Rehman, Mohd Saleem Khan and Shadab Ahmad. The court, however, made it clear that granting bail did not dilute the seriousness of allegations against them and imposed 12 strict conditions, warning that any violation would lead to cancellation of bail.
The judgment, which was reserved on December 10, stressed that offences under the UAPA cannot be viewed as isolated acts and must be examined within the broader statutory framework. The court underlined that bail proceedings are not meant to evaluate the defence in detail and require a structured judicial approach.
The bench also referred to Section 15 of the UAPA, noting that the definition of a terrorist act extends beyond loss of life or property to include disruption of essential services and threats to economic stability. It emphasised that bail pleas under UAPA must be assessed individually, as the degree of alleged involvement differs from accused to accused.
The Supreme Court further directed that the trial be concluded expeditiously and that protected witnesses be examined without delay.
Delhi Police has consistently opposed bail in the case, maintaining that the February 2020 violence was a pre-planned conspiracy aimed at undermining national sovereignty and timed to coincide with the visit of US President Donald Trump. The accused have denied the allegations, arguing that they have been targeted without substantive evidence.
